We started our Christmas vacation this year travelling to Gatlinburg, via Huntsville with lots of stuff on the roof of our car and no visibility out the back. We made it to Huntsville after a really long drive and a couple naps and slept for a few hours before continuing on to the cabin. We love going to the cabin. It is such a relaxed atmosphere. The boys liked rolling pool balls around the pool table and playing air hockey. Wednesday was just a day to get settled in. Thursday we did some shopping and went to the Dixie Stampede. Friday we made our annual visit to the pancake pantry and drove go carts. The boys rode along this year. Alexander loved it. Benjamin was a fan until he got too cold. The guys all grew mustaches this year (something that they don’t want to keep as a tradition) so Kelly and I bought pink mustaches to fit in the Christmas picture. Alexander thought they were hilarious and wore his own all evening.
We all opened our Christmas pajamas and the boys went to bed. Alexander was ready to go to bed after lunch just so Santa could come. He was so excited this year. He wanted to leave Santa carrots so he could be healthy, but decided to leave a few cookies as well. We woke up Christmas morning to snow. The boys got everything they wanted and more. Alexander got his Kung Zhu pets and he and Benjamin played with them till the batteries dies. Benjamin got a wooden fire station. They got Legos and train tracks and bugs and books and, and, and too many toys for two little boys. In fact Alexander told me the other day he didn’t know what to play with, there were too many choices.
Sunday we still had snow and lots of it. Randy tried a couple times to get off the mountain—he just wasn’t successful in coming back to park. So we waited around several hours for the tractor and the man carrying the bucket of salt to come free us from the mountain and head home to Huntsville. The drive home was beautiful. Like a Thomas Kinkade picture.
We started part 2 of our Christmas vacation at my parents late Sunday night. We opened more gifts and spent the next few days being completely lazy. The kids played in the snow. Benjamin rolled a snowman ball all by himself—it was almost 2 feet in diameter. Alexander threw snowballs and made snow angels on his back and his stomach. We took the kids to Tangled which was really good even though it had a princess in it. I made some cookies. Kyle went to a man lunch. And the boys played lots of wii. It was nice to be able to not do much of anything. ( I somehow have no pictures from my parents—the camera must have been lost in all our stuff.)
We headed home late the night of the 30th, early morning the 31st. Our New Year’s party was cancelled due to the rain so we made some fondue at home and had some sparkling cider. Kyle fell asleep with Benjamin around 8 and I fell asleep watching cartoons with Alexander around 9. Poor Alexander kept waking us up for his special drink. We rand in New Yorks New Year and then fell back asleep. I guess the drive through the night the night before had worn us out. 2011 is looking good so far.
